Grassland in teh Vale of Glamorgan Vale Nature Partnership

Grassland

There are a wide range of grasslands ranging from highly modified and improved agricultural grasslands to ancient species-rich meadows. There are estimated to be 950 hectares of wildlife rich ‘unimproved’ or ‘semi-improved’ grasslands in the Vale making up just 1% of the Welsh resource. Grasslands have a significant cultural and wildlife value in the Vale combining with arable land to make the classic patchwork of fields. Species-rich grasslands are home to a large number and variety of wildflowers. Each grassland supports a set of species, including many threatened species of plants, invertebrates and birds
